Feria de la Naranja

Since 2003, every spring Melegís becomes for one week the epicentre of the Valle de Lecrín. The Feria de la Naranja is the municipality’s biggest gastronomic, cultural and sporting event, declared of provincial tourist interest and a landmark across the region.

For a whole week — the one before Holy Week — the village fills with food stands, concerts, workshops, exhibitions and activities for all ages. The heart of the fair is in the Pista Cubierta Antonio Ruiz, with free entry, while the squares, streets and orchards of Melegís also become an open stage where producers, cooks, musicians, athletes and artisans share the best of the valley.

Gastronomy takes centre stage: the remojón de naranja and the migas —the two most typical dishes of the municipality— are served alongside jams, pastries, freshly squeezed juice and pairings with AOVE from the sierra and orange-blossom honey from local beekeepers. All of it with the orange of the valley —Washington Navel, Navelina and Lane Late varieties— as the common thread.
