Carrera de la Naranja

A unique sporting event: 6,660 metres along country lanes through orange groves, with over 400 runners each year. Held on the last Saturday of February as a prelude to the Feria de la Naranja, it brings together amateur, registered and recreational runners from across the province.

The Carrera de la Naranja starts in the centre of Melegís and runs along country lanes of the municipality of El Valle, crossing orchards of orange, olive and almond trees. The course — certified at 6,660 m — combines flat stretches, short climbs and views of Sierra Nevada and the Béznar reservoir.

Organised by the Ayuntamiento de El Valle, it has established itself as one of the most distinctive fun runs in the Valle de Lecrín. On arrival, each participant receives a bag of oranges from the municipality and, on crossing the finish line, water, fresh juice and a commemorative medal, and the overall winner takes home their weight in oranges.

The race is part of the provincial fun-run circuit of the Diputación de Granada and is part of the calendar of the Feria de la Naranja.
